Stump Grinding & Tree Removal
Stump Grinding & Tree Removal in the Piedmont Triad
Take down problem trees and grind out the stumps that are in the way of your yard, driveway, garden or building plans, so your property is safe, level and ready to use.
Serving Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem & the NC Piedmont Triad
Clear Trees and Stumps the Right Way
Old stumps, storm-damaged trees and trees growing where they shouldn't be are more than eyesores, they're safety and drainage problems. Roots undermine driveways and foundations, hollow trees fall in storms and stumps make mowing a nightmare.
Our sweet spot is clearing and land work: pushing trees over during a clearing so the root system comes out with them, and grinding any stumps already in the ground. For single trees standing tight to homes, powerlines or highways, we usually bring in a trusted tree service partner rather than climb or drop them ourselves, that's the safer, cleaner call.
What You Get With KNS LandWorx

How We Handle Trees and Stumps
We're focused on removing trees, not cutting them. In most cases we push the tree over and pull the root system out at the same time, so you're not left with a stump to deal with later. It's faster, cleaner and leaves the ground ready for whatever's next.
If there are existing stumps already in the ground, we'll grind them out. And when it makes sense on a job, we'll bring in the chipper to grind wood on site instead of hauling it. Either way, you end up with a property that's actually usable, not one full of stumps and slash piles.
Our Process
A straightforward path from overgrown land to a finished job you can be proud of.
- 1
Assessment
We look at the tree, its lean, nearby structures, utilities and access, and decide on the safest drop.
- 2
Controlled Removal
We take the tree down in pieces when needed to keep everything around it safe.
- 3
Stump Grinding
We grind the stump 6 to 12 inches below grade so the ground can be filled, seeded or paved.
- 4
Cleanup
Wood, brush and grindings are cleaned up and, if you want, hauled off entirely.
Ideal For Piedmont Triad Property Owners Who Need
- Hazard, dead or leaning trees near a home
- Old stumps left behind by previous owners
- Prep for a driveway, addition or patio
- Rural lots with heavy hardwood clusters
- Storm damage cleanup
- Yard leveling and re-landscaping

Oak, hickory, maple and sweetgum are hardwood. Pine and cedar are softwood. Hardwood grinds slower, so it prices higher.
2. Grind depth and distance
Recommended anywhere you plan to seed, sod or replant. Turn off for mulch beds and rough ground.
Rounded up to the nearest 10 miles. Not sure? Leave the default and we will confirm it on the walk-through.
3. Chips and backfill
Requires chips to be piled or hauled off first.
Quoted separately after the walk-through
- Extensive root systems spreading more than twice the stump diameter
- Hand work beyond standard cleanup, billed at $115 per hour
- Difficult machine access or lawn preservation requirements
- Stumps standing more than 12" above grade
This is an estimate based on what you entered. We verify stump sizes and ask for photos before scheduling, so the price can change if the details differ. The mobilization charge (base plus mileage) is non-refundable once the crew is dispatched.

Getting the crew and machine there
- Base charge
- $100
- Travel to your property
- $2 per mile
- Job minimum
- $225
Mileage is rounded up to the nearest 10 miles. Small jobs land at the $225 minimum, which is why grouping stumps into one visit is almost always cheaper than calling us back twice.
Chips, backfill and extras
- Spread chips around the area
- Included
- Relocate chips to a pile on the property
- from $25
- Haul chips off site
- from $225
- Bring in dirt to fill holes and grade
- from $225
Chip and backfill add-ons scale with the volume the grinding produces, so the estimator prices them against your actual stump list. Dirt fill requires the chips to be moved or hauled first.
Included on every job
- Standard cleanup: chips and debris spread around the grinding area
- Utility locate request before any machine work begins
- On-site verification of stump sizes before we start
Quoted separately
- Extensive root systems spreading more than twice the stump diameter
- Hand work beyond standard cleanup, billed at $115 per hour
- Difficult machine access or lawn preservation requirements
- Stumps standing more than 12" above grade
Prices are estimates based on the information provided. We verify stump sizes on site and ask for photos before scheduling. If the details change, the price may change, and the mobilization charge (base plus mileage) is non-refundable once the crew is dispatched.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle both the tree removal and the stump?
Yes. Doing both in one visit saves you time and gets the site truly ready for whatever comes next.
How deep do you grind the stump?
Typically 6 to 12 inches below grade, deeper if you're planning to pour concrete or plant new trees over it.
Will you take the wood away?
Your choice. Some customers want firewood or usable logs; others want everything hauled off. Both options are available.
Do you climb trees or use a lift?
We use ground-based equipment plus climbing and pole methods as the site requires. Very technical work near structures may be referred to a partner arborist if it's the safest call.
How much does stump grinding cost?
Pricing depends on stump diameter, wood species and access. We give you a firm price after a quick on-site look, no guessing.
